Saul if you swing and make contact with opponent then it's a foul. Under laws of the game it was "careless"

Well that's what I thought was the case too Trevor, but then I assumed that he must have viewed it more seriously because it was barely a foul.

You'd accept a free kick grudgingly but from memory there simply wasn't a whole lot in it.

EAH

the ref asked the lino if cresswell had pulled him back, he said yes. professional/cynical doesn't come into it.

i agree about the appeal process though, when both rack up to a red, good suggestion.

Re: ⚽ Crystal Palace v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 0-1
I'm not sure who was more unlucky, Ogbonna or Cresswell.

Ogbonna's was never a foul until the very last second when Benteke got his leg in the way. Ogbonna had lined it up, had time, started to swing and then Bentley's leg appeared from nowhere. Unfortunate, but a penalty I think.

I read one report somewhere that I thought mentioned Cresswell was carded first time for mouthing off about the non-penalty not actually diving. I thought it was for the dive, but I guess it could be possible it was back chat? Definitely shouldn't have been for a dive anyway.
The second card was just ridiculous. That happens all the time, 20 times a game, and it's only a foul. I assume the ref was asking the assistant it he thought it was a professional foul? He was nodding pretty vehemently, whatever the question was.

I was always under the impression that for it to be professional or cynical, you'd have to take out someone heading for goal really....not 40m out on the touchline.

If there was ever a case for changing the appeal process to cater for yellows, this would be it.

Maybe not EVERY yellow, but where they add up to a red, then they should be treated the same.

Anyway, that's probably all been covered already I expect.

You only have to look at the lack of protests by the players, by the fact that Webb agreed it was a foul after consulting the video and that Bilic didn't mention it either.

Re: ⚽ Crystal Palace v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 0-1
Deffo foul, deffo penalty. Whether it was intentional or not. If you want to go by the letter of the law then it was careless.

Fouls happen every week that are not 'intentional'. you must've noticed?

Re: ⚽ Crystal Palace v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 0-1
From rule 12

A direct free kick is awarded if a player commits any of the following offences against an opponent in a manner considered by the referee to be careless, reckless or using excessive force:

The mistimed tackles etc can be seen as reckless.

Oggy was not being reckless, careless or using excessive force. He was just kicking a ball that was coming towards him.

That should not have been a penalty

You're thinking of the first challenge which was outside the box, it wasn't given for that but for another challenge in the box by Ogbonna a split second later.

I'm talking about Palace's penalty not Cresswell.

Bollox - Well if that was the case all of those free kicks we see where a player arrives late or mis-times his tackle would never be free kicks and you're allowed to play on with the oppo player wiped out?

Trevor B 4:54 Mon Oct 17
Re: ⚽ Crystal Palace v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 0-1
I don't think the word 'intentional' has been used in the laws of the game for many, many years. possibly decades. Otherwise you could suggest that most tackling fouls are unintentional as the player is going for the ball in most instances.

Saul Bollox 4:42 Mon Oct 17
Re: ⚽ Crystal Palace v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 0-1
The rules used to say the challenge had to be intentional to be a foul when I did referees training. When did this change? Oggy just aimed his foot at the ball if he was not even aware of the other blokes presence that's a penalty?

So it's a nailed on penalty if you are innocently clearing the ball and some cunt jumps in the way at the last second?

TWE saying the foul was outside the box and Saul saying that a foul isn't a foul unless you MEAN it.....what planet are you two on? lol

Oggy didn't even know he was there, but that doesn't make it any less of a foul and no complaints about it.
